Oreo Cookie Lab

Lab conducted on September 12th, 2013

Students measured the filling in three types of Oreo cookies to determine if filling amounts matched advertising.

Hypothesis: The amount of filling in the Oreo does not match what is advertised.

Method: weigh all three types of Oreos
weigh one side of the cookies out of 2
              double the results
subtract from results of step 1

Students peeled filling from different types of Oreos- Original, Double- Stuf, Mega-stuf- massed each and compared results.

Results: Chart below gives results for this group:

cookie part mass: 4.4g

Cookie                  Mass             after mass of cookie part is subtracted
Original                 12g                     3.2g
Double-Stuff         15.6g                  6.8g
Mega-Stuff            18.3g                 9.5g

Conclusion and analysis: The amount of filling in an Oreo does match advertisement.
